[Nagiosplug-help] check_users reports zero users

The nrpe.cfg file on ns2 has this relevant entry: (this server correctly
reports 1 user logged in)
     command[check_users]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_users -w $ARG1$ -c
$ARG2$

Now, I stay logged into ns2 (207.158.10.18), and then from the nagios server
I execute the command:
     [root at dev2 nagios]# ./libexec/check_nrpe -H 207.158.10.18 -c
check_users -a 1 1
     USERS OK - 0 users currently logged in |users=0;1;1;0

I'm running running RHEL 4.6 on ns2, and the nagios server is running CentOS
4.5.

How do I go about debugging this situation?
